Wine is the perfect synthesis of the relationship of men with nature, between men and their territory; it is the possibility to interpret a place through the knowledge of one's own origins and the respect of nature. This is the philosophy of the winegrowers' culture from Abruzzo in which our Rosso Castellina Montepulciano sinks its roots.
The success of this wine is surely due to the good characteristics of the Abruzzo territory where the love for the products of the land means natural and superior cultivations. The territory of Abruzzo is naturally prepared to the growing of grapes, situated as it is among the Adriatic sea and the Gran Sasso d'Italia and the Majella mountain chains, where three National Parks and more than ten national and regional reserves stretch.
Rosso Castellina, Montepulciano of Abruzzo DOC 2005, originates from the cultivations of the Aurora family, who has been in the farming field for more than 40 years.
The "Azienda Agricola Castellina" cultivations cover a surface of 12 hectares, from which we get an excellent Montepulciano of Abruzzo DOC.
The harvest of the grapes is rigorously made by hand allowing a more accurate selection of the clusters.
Our responsible oenologist, Mr. Giandomenico Franco, punctually follows the progress of our grapes, that last year have allowed us to produce 18.000 bottles.
We bottle our wine at Chiusa Grande Winery in Nocciano, certified by ICEA (Institute for Ethic-Environmental Certification) and is a member of AIAB (Italian Association of Biological Agriculture).
The Oil Mill Castellina tradition of extra virgin olive oil sinks its roots in the sunny lands of Abruzzo that lean out on the Adriatic sea, on the feet of the appennine mountain chains of the Majella. This particular geographical position, between sea and mountain, determines those particularly favorable conditions of Mediterranean microclimate so favourable to the cultivation of the olive trees giving life to an extra virgin olive oil of valuable organic qualities: pale gold color with intense green reflexes, a delicate and fruity perfume, and a flavor extending to sweetness. The olives of Leccino and Frantoio varieties are exclusively harvested by hand - stripping the branches and selecting the olives. Then the olives are ground within 24 hours in our partner Oleificio Ciccolallo mill through millstones of granite and the obtained oil is cold extracted and stored in stainless steel containers, filtrated with cotton wool and finally bottled. The particular digestibility of the extra virgin oil Castellina, with its particularly pleasant taste, makes it ideal for any dish: fish, roast, grilled vegetables, salads.
